Nowadays, diabetes is considered as a serious problem not only from a medical point of view but also from a socioeconomic perspective. Number of people suffering from diabetes is constantly increasing, in Moldova by 24.9% in last two years. Increasing trend is observed also regarding the number of diabetic patients with chronic complications. The main reasons for this trend are poorly educated physicians, nurses, patients and society in general.
The aim of the project is therefore to improve the quality of life of population suffering from diabetes in Moldova and reducing the death rate caused by late complications. The project focuses on strengthening professional capacities of medical staff from 17 health facilities in Chisinau in modern diagnosis, treatment and early detection of diabetes among high-risk populations. At the same time it will increase the access of the population of Chisinau to improved health services in secondary prevention and treatment of diabetes.
In total, at least 204 family doctors and 208 nurses from Chisinau will be trained according to the special materials developed by selected experts within the project. 320 diabetic patients and 240 of their relatives will be instructed in issues related to the life with diabetes. A wide awareness campaign will take place in order to inform the public about the importance of prevention.
