The project purpose is to support equal opportunities of disabled children and youth and enable them to participate fully in community life in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Specifically, the first project aim is to mitigate the impact of disability on the social status of children and youth in North Gondar and improving their level of health and social rehabilitation. The second aim is to raise awareness about the real causes of disability in rural communities, and improve prevention and disability discrimination.
Community-based rehabilitation program was introduced by Gondar University that provides education in physiotherapy at the bachelor’s level study and allows students to participate in this program like a part of practice. Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) means working with disabled people in their environment and in the same time working with the environment itself. This is a multidisciplinary approach that includes health care and prevention, integration to schools and integration support into society
